On new golf course projects the design work can normally
be considered in the following stages:
Feasibility Study Initial site visit(s) to determine the feasibility
of the project. This normally involves the design
of the golf course layout, the preparation of budget
costs and the development of the project brief in
the light of the feasibility study.
Planning Application Once the preferred layout has been agreed, a planning
submission can be put together based on the requirements
of the local planning authority. Normally the submission
will include a concept Earthworks Plan, Tree Strategy
Plan, Drainage Plan and Seeding/ Management Plan.
Construction Drawings Once the project has received planning permission
and the necessary licences, detailed drawings can
be prepared for the constructon of the golf course.
The following drawings would normally be included.
(i)
Earthworks plans for greens, tees and bunkers
at a scale
of 1:250 showing proposed contours at 0.25m intervals.
(ii)
Fairway Earthworks Plans at 1:500 scale.
(iii)
Drainage Plan at 1:1250 (or 1:1000) scale.
(iv)
Tree Planting Plan at 1:1250 scale.
(v)
Seeding & Maintenance Plan at 1:1250
scale.
Contract Documents These include the Specification for the works,
Bill of Quantities, and Conditions of Contract.
The project is normally put out to tender to 3-5 golf
course contractors.
Inspection of Construction An important ingredient in the success of any project
is regular inspection during the construciton phase
to monitor the quality of materials and workmanship,
and to supervise the final shaping of key fetures
of the golf course. Normally weekly visits are provided
during the main construction period with further visits
during the early maintenance stages to ensure that
the golf course comes into play in the best possible
condition.
